BRIGANCE Age Calculator

BRIGANCE IED III and early childhood screens require exact chronological age as of the assessment date. Use our free calculator to get the age in years, months, and days before you score.

Using Chronological Age for BRIGANCE Scoring

The BRIGANCE Inventories—including the IED III (Inventory of Early Development) and the BRIGANCE Comprehensive Inventory of Basic Skills—rely on chronological age to convert raw scores into age equivalents and to determine whether a child is performing at, above, or below expectations for their age. Entering the wrong age, even by a few weeks, can shift the age-equivalent result and affect eligibility or progress decisions in early intervention and special education.

Teachers, early childhood specialists, and assessment coordinators often need a BRIGANCE age calculator that gives the exact age as of the screening or assessment date. Our free tool asks for birth date and the date of the assessment; it then returns age in years, months, and days, which you can copy directly onto the BRIGANCE record form or into your scoring system. The calculation method is the same as the standard used in BRIGANCE manuals and is consistent with other standardized assessments.
